This session will focus on how interconnections between countries and regions can help the evolution of renewable energy solutions in Europe.  

10.00 AM - 10.45 AM: CODE RED - Can cities save the planet?

Organizer: NCM

How do we change the decisions we make today in our cities to get a better tomorrow? We ask the city manager, the builder, the architect and a voice for the future how we can catalyze the necessary change.

 

11.00 AM - 12.30 PM: New leadership for climate action in the cities!

Organizer: City of Lahti, Kuntaliitto (Association of Finnish Municipalities), Atmosphere and Climate Competence Center (ACCC), University of Helsinki

The Nordics are developing carbon neutral construction in cities that incorporate climate actions, citizens wellbeing, thriving milieu for business, participatory governance and science-based services. The strength lies in building networks for collaboration with the cities’ multi-stakeholders. We discuss best practices, identify gaps, and showcase examples of Nordic cities.

As temperatures rise, cities around the world need to create strategies to cool down, reduce GHG emissions and safeguard vulnerable populations. This session will showcase tools and solutions cities can use to tackle urban heat in sustainable and comprehensive ways, to protect the people and the planet alike.

2.00 PM - 3.00 PM: Building Materials and bioeconomy in the Global Climate Agenda

Organizer: Ministry of the Environment, Finland / Co-organizers: Nordic Council of Ministers

The OPN Sustainable Buildings and Construction Programme will launch its Circular Built Environment reports from the Global South in a Side Event organized together with the Nordic Council of Ministers. The importance of building materials will be discussed and action points for collaboration debated.

3.30 PM - 4.30 PM: Business panel: New leadership for climate action in business

The business of the future is under transition. Sustainability requirements are rising, and companies need to adapt to new demands, new legislation and changing values. Several larger companies that take leadership and go far further. They just do it. They show the way. But why? And how?

5.00 PM - 5.45 PM: NORDIC TALK: Leading the future. From COP26 to UIA23

Organizer: UIA23

In 23 the Nordic countries host the UIA World congress in Copenhagen with a focus on the UN SDG’s and how to archive the goals. The transition need a collaboration and a leadership not seen before and the UIA bring the necessary part together to find the needed solutions.

6.15 PM - 7.00 PM: Creation of the Systematic Observations Financing Facility

Organizer: WMO / Others involved: UNDP and UNEP 

At this high-level event, WMO, UNEP and UNDP will announce the creation of the Systematic Observations Finance Facility. SOFF provides the foundations for effective international response to climate change. It will fill critical data gaps from the most vulnerable countries that undermine efforts to build climate resilience across the globe.
