The Nordic textile reuse and recycling commitment – a certification system for used textiles and textile waste

“The Nordic textile re-use and recycling commitment” certification aims to decrease the environmental impact of textile consumption and to strengthen the competitiveness of the Nordic region by increasing re-use and recycling of textile waste generated in the Nordic countries. The certification system is voluntary, and ensures sustainable and transparent handling of used textiles.The certification system assures that certified organizations follow strict criteria on traceability and environmental performance when collecting and handling textiles. The collected textiles will be re-used and recycled in accordance with the waste hierarchy, and all operations are reviewed by an independent third party.There are two types of certification. The first is for collection of textiles aimed for re-use only, and the second for collection of textiles for re-use and textile waste for recycling.
