Are we heading towards a Nordic Region where we’re closing each other out and distancing ourselves from the outside world? The Nordic Council will meet for a Session at the Norwegian parliament building, the Storting, in Oslo on 19 April to discuss the impact of border controls on Nordic co-operation.

“I note that some individuals advocate the Nordic Region joining forces to patrol our outermost borders. This is likely to be a controversial topic when Nordic politicians meet in Oslo in April,” says Henrik Dam Kristensen (Denmark), President of the Nordic Council.

Debate and press conference

The Nordic Council Session opens at the Storting at 13:00 on Tuesday 19 April with a topical debate on border controls. You can follow the discussions in the plenary assembly room in Scandinavian, Finnish, and Icelandic between 13:00 and 16:00 CET. The Session will also be streamed at www.norden.org.

The President of the Nordic Council and members of the Presidium will meet the press immediately after the topical debate (around 14:00) directly outside the Storting assembly room.

Debates will then follow on other topics including aviation safety, enhanced Sami co-operation, and the rights of children and young people.
