Promoting gender equality in the labour market has long been a priority for the Nordic countries and for the official Nordic co-operation. Today, women in the region are among the most active in the world in the labour market. Despite this, the objective of equal conditions in the labour market is far from being achieved. One of the clearest indicators is the gender pay gap, which persists despite long-standing priorities to close it. 

 

An expanded focus can help the Nordic countries closing the gender pay gap. Pay equity – the principle of equal pay for work of equal value – offers a holistic approach to the issue. Pay equity does not only cover cases where men and women do the same or similar jobs, but also situations where they do different work, which requires the same or similar level of skill, responsibility and effort. 

 

The event will build on the findings of a new Nordic report which highlights the current situation in the region and provides an overview of legislation and policy initiatives in the region.
